Gay Life in India

Jaipur India is probably not the best place to go for someone who wants to experience a lot of gay nightlife or entertainment. Although the percentage of LGBTQ people in India is probably about the same as anywhere else in the world, India's homosexuals are largely invisible. However, this has already begun to change and will continue to change at lightening speed as India becomes more modern and Westernized.

Pride events have been held throughout India and have grown steadily since June 2008, laws against homosexuality were struck down and later reinstated. On 6 September 2018 India's Supreme Court has finally overturned the country's British-era laws that criminalized homosexuality. This is was great victory for many in India who worked tirelessly for years to bring their country into the 21st century among other developed nations. Things are already beginning to change rapidly for the better as entrepreneurs open gay-friendly businesses that would not have been possible not long ago. For the time being, however, there are no specifically gay restaurants, bars or other kinds of businesses you might expect to find in other countries. This will change quickly.
